Security operatives reportedly attempted to arrest former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, upon his return from Cairo, Egypt.

The claim was made by El-Rufai’s Media Adviser, Muyiwa Adekeye, in a post shared on his verified X (formerly Twitter) account shortly after the incident.

According to Adekeye, security personnel approached the former governor as he disembarked from his flight and sought to take him into custody. However, El-Rufai allegedly declined to accompany them, insisting that he would only respond to a formal invitation.

“Security agents today attempted to arrest Malam Nasir El-Rufai as he arrived on a flight from Cairo. Malam El-Rufai declined to follow them without a formal invitation,” Adekeye wrote.

He further alleged that during the encounter, the operatives confiscated El-Rufai’s passport, reportedly taking it from one of his aides.

As of the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from security authorities regarding the development.
