The glamour surrounding Big Brother Naija’s Ilebaye Odiniya’s rise to fame has been overshadowed by a disturbing family crisis that has left the reality TV star hospitalised and her father, Honourable Emmanuel Godson Odiniya, in police custody following an alleged violent altercation.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, May 9, 2026, at the Royal Anchor Estate, where neighbours raised alarm over a distress situation that later required police intervention.
According to the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, Josephine Adeh, tactical operatives and officers from the Department of Operations arrived at the residence around midnight but initially found the compound barricaded.
Police reportedly gained access after nearly two and a half hours and discovered Ilebaye with visible facial swelling and bruises. She was immediately rushed to the NNPC Hospital for medical treatment alongside her younger brothers.
However, in a dramatic turn, her father later released an audio recording through journalist Jeremiah Promise Enemona Ocheme, accusing the reality star of ingratitude and abandonment.
Honourable Odiniya claimed he played a major role in the political and social mobilisation efforts in Kogi State that contributed to Ilebaye’s victory on Big Brother Naija, but alleged she had since distanced herself from him.
He further claimed that Ilebaye repeatedly insulted him and encouraged him to divorce her mother, Mrs. Lami, from whom he has reportedly been estranged after 32 years of marriage.
The father alleged that tensions within the family were worsened by disagreements over finances and lifestyle choices.
“The way she spends money, I told her several times let us have a place we can develop, it can be a place to help the poor, the less privileged ones, but my daughter will never listen to me,” he said.
“It is my own property, my own hotel, but my daughter will snap and put it on the net that it is her building, which is not hers. By the grace of God, I was doing fine from the age of 40; I have never disappointed God in helping the less privileged ones.”
He also claimed he once approached his daughter for financial assistance to fund a medical trip to Dubai, but she allegedly told him she had no money.
“I will be happy if my daughter supports her colleagues, but what about your father? If you help your father, is anything wrong?” he asked, referencing reports that Ilebaye recently sprayed money at the wedding of fellow reality star Cross.
Providing another side to the incident, Ilebaye’s mother, Mrs. Lami, reportedly said the confrontation began when the reality star visited the family home to discuss plans for her upcoming 24th birthday celebration.
According to her, the discussion escalated after the father accused Ilebaye of being under her mother’s “bad influence,” eventually leading to the alleged assault.
The controversy has also drawn attention to the family’s fragile domestic situation, including reports of an existing court-ordered custody arrangement involving Ilebaye’s younger brothers.
As the story continues to generate reactions online, many Nigerians remain divided between sympathy for the reality star’s alleged physical ordeal and the father’s claims of emotional and financial neglect.
While Honourable Odiniya remains in police custody pending further investigation, Ilebaye has yet to issue any official public response to the allegations.
