President Bola Tinubu has nominated Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, the immediate past sole administrator of Rivers State and former Chief of Naval Staff, as a non-career ambassador.

Also nominated are former senator Ita Enang; Chioma Ohakim, former First Lady of Imo State; and Abdulrahman Dambazau, former Minister of Interior and ex-Chief of Army Staff. Their names were absent from the earlier batch of ambassadorial nominees released by the presidency.

Tinubu’s latest nominations were contained in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Thursday’s plenary session.

In the correspondence, the president urged the Senate to give the nominees expedited consideration to ensure the government fills critical diplomatic positions without delay.

Akpabio subsequently referred the list to the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, with a directive to screen the nominees and submit its report within one week.
