Suspected terrorists launched a harrowing midnight attack on the Ayegunle Bunu community in the Kabba-Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State, leaving one resident dead and over 30 people abducted.

The tragic incident, which has thrown the community into panic, reportedly occurred in the early hours of Monday, June 1, 2026, at about 2:25 a.m.

During the violent raid, the armed invaders shot sporadically, killing one person on the spot while another resident sustained severe injuries. According to local sources, two prominent residents of the community, a man and a woman, were among those forcefully taken from their homes by the attackers.

As captured in the reports shared on social media the heavily armed gunmen did not stop at terrorizing the village. They went on to intercept a commercial bus passing through the area, rounding up all the passengers on board.

The bandits reportedly operated for several minutes without any resistance from security agencies before marching their victims into the bush and escaping to an unknown location.

According to a local outlet, Egbe Mekun Parrot, the community has been thrown into deep mourning and confusion following the sudden disappearance of their loved ones.

This latest onslaught has raised fresh concerns among residents and commuters over the rapidly worsening state of insecurity in Kogi State, particularly along the critical highways linking local communities to neighbouring Kwara State.
