The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has blamed politicians and bad governance for the various socio-economic challenges confronting Nigeria.
Speaking on Sunday at the Koinonia Global service hosted by Apostle Joshua Selman, the NDC presidential flagbearer stated that nothing is fundamentally wrong with the country, pointing out that poor leadership remains Nigeria’s major drawback.
“We are the problem of the country. There’s nothing wrong with Nigeria. What is wrong in Nigeria is the leadership, the politicians God created in this country,” Obi said.
He urged the congregation to direct their prayers towards political office holders, asking God to grant them the wisdom and willingness to utilize public resources for the genuine development of the nation.
“I believe that people like you are the ones keeping our country. The only thing I can ask all of you who are gathered here, because I know he’s praying for the country, is that you remember us, the politicians, in your prayers,” he appealed.
“Let God touch our hearts to use public money for public good. Let God touch us to stop stealing. That is why people are suffering here,” he added.
Reflecting on his travels to various developed nations, Obi noted that efficient leadership is the primary factor driving progress in other parts of the world, insisting that Nigeria’s vast resources can turn its fortunes around if managed properly.
“I’ve been to so many countries of the world. And I’ve seen things work in other nations. It is leadership,” he stated.
According to him, Nigeria’s wealth, if properly invested, could significantly improve the lives of citizens and address many of the nation’s critical issues.
“If we use the wealth of this nation and invest it, it will go a long way. So remember us in your prayers,” he urged.
Obi also called on citizens to avoid partisan division when praying for leaders, stressing that divine intervention in leadership could reshape the nation’s future.
“Don’t say one is good, the other one is bad. All of us, remember all of us in your prayers, because the problem of the country can be solved. I assure you of that,” he concluded.
