A Nigerian football fan identified as Mazi Chibuzor Nzediegwu has reportedly died while watching the UEFA Champions League final involving his beloved club, Arsenal.
Nzediegwu, a native of Umudieleke Umuoru village in Uga, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, was said to have collapsed on Saturday evening while watching the match between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) at a viewing centre in Uga.
According to a social media post by E-Parrot De MC Umelechi, the deceased, popularly known as “NZE,” was a livestock trader who dealt in live goats at Orie Uga market.
“The man popularly known as NZE who deals on Live Goat (Ewu Hausa) at Orie Uga, collapsed at one popular joint in Uga during the 2nd half of the finals. There he was rushed to nearby hospitals, all efforts to restore and save his life was abortive.
“He was confirmed dead by the hospital, suspected BP or heart failure caused his death.
“May his soul rest in peace Amen,” the post stated.
According to reports, Nzediegwu collapsed during the second half of the encounter and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital. However, efforts by medical personnel to revive him were unsuccessful.
While the exact cause of death has not been officially confirmed, it was speculated that he may have suffered complications related to high blood pressure or heart failure.
The incident occurred during a dramatic Champions League final between Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain.
Arsenal reportedly took an early lead in the sixth minute before PSG equalised through a penalty in the 68th minute. The match ended 1-1 after regulation time and was eventually decided by a penalty shootout, with PSG prevailing 4-3 to lift the trophy.
The death of the football enthusiast has sparked reactions among residents and football fans, many of whom expressed shock and sadness over the incident.
