The Nigeria Police Force has reassured residents of Ekiti State, electoral officials, and political stakeholders of adequate security ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, pledging to ensure a peaceful and credible voting process.

The assurance was given by the Supervising Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG) for the election, Mustapha Fayoade, during a strategic meeting with security personnel and stakeholders in Ado Ekiti on Thursday.

Fayoade said comprehensive security measures had been put in place in collaboration with other security agencies to safeguard voters, election officials, and electoral materials throughout the electoral process.

According to him, sufficient personnel and operational resources have been deployed across the state to prevent disruptions and maintain law and order before, during, and after the election.

The supervising DIG also charged security operatives participating in the election assignment to uphold the highest standards of professionalism, discipline, and impartiality while carrying out their responsibilities.

He emphasized the importance of cooperation among security agencies, noting that effective coordination and information sharing would be crucial to ensuring a smooth electoral exercise.

Fayoade further appealed to political actors, community leaders, and residents to support security efforts by remaining peaceful, law-abiding, and committed to the democratic process.

The senior police officer was deployed by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, to oversee security operations for the election. He is being supported by Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Olanrewaju Ogunlowo.

Reaffirming the readiness of law enforcement agencies, Fayoade stated that every necessary step had been taken to protect voters and ensure the integrity of the electoral process.

The renewed security assurances complement efforts already initiated by Abayomi Shogunle, the Ekiti State Election Commissioner of Police, who recently assumed office and announced the implementation of a multi-layered security framework for the election.

With voters set to head to the polls across the state, security authorities say they remain committed to maintaining peace and preventing any acts capable of undermining the credibility of the electoral process.
