The Police Command in Ekiti State has made good on its promise to maintain discipline within its ranks by dismissing Sergeant Osayingbemi Temitope with immediate effect. The dismissal follows a thorough investigation into a viral video where the officer was seen acting erratically in the Ikole-Ekiti area of the state on May 9, an incident that many observers blamed on substance abuse.
In a statement released on Friday, the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed that the officer was subjected to a battery of tests following the incident. While a psychiatric evaluation proved he was of sound mind and emotionally stable, a medical screening confirmed the presence of amphetamines and tobacco in his bloodstream. The spokesperson added that the officer eventually confessed to the illicit act during the orderly room trial.
Following the conclusion of the disciplinary process, the officer was found culpable of gross misconduct. The recommendation for his dismissal was subsequently upheld by the state authorities. “The command hereby confirms his dismissal with immediate effect,” Abutu stated, emphasizing that the Nigeria Police Force remains a disciplined organization that will not condone any act of indiscipline or unprofessionalism.
The State Commissioner of Police, Falade Micheal, has used the medium to sound a note of warning to all personnel within the command. He urged them to be mindful of their conduct in the discharge of their duties, stressing that the Force will continue to prioritize accountability and integrity to ensure the image of the police is not brought into disrepute by the actions of a few.
