Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has transmitted the names of six commissioner nominees to the State House of Assembly for consideration and confirmation.
The Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker of the House, Alfred Emberga, Zape Upaa, made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the statement, “The governor, in the letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga, said the move was intended to strengthen the State Executive Council and inject additional expertise and capacity into the administration.”
The statement further listed the fresh nominees presented to the lawmakers, noting, “The nominees include Hon. Kuma Yenge, Hon. Roy Terna, Hon. Angwa Monday, Hon. Elizabeth Ogenyi, Hon. Solomon Iorpev and Hon. Nick Eworo.”
Following the transmission, the governor requested the House to give the nominees prompt and favourable consideration in accordance with its constitutional responsibility.
It was gathered that the submission of the commissioner nominees comes as the Alia-led administration continues to consolidate its cabinet and strengthen the machinery of government for effective service delivery across the state.
The prospective cabinet members are expected to replace some of the executive council members who resigned to contest various elective offices during the primary elections.
In July 2026, Governor Alia had challenged state governors nationwide to fully implement local government autonomy.
Alia, who declared that the constitutional provision had transformed governance in Benue, argued that his state had become the most compliant in the federation.
The former clergyman stated this during a meet-the-press briefing organised by the Presidential Communications Team at the State House, Abuja. He also warned politicians against converting insecurity into a partisan weapon.
Speaking at the Abuja briefing, he stated, “I encourage every other person who is not on this path to move into it as well, because it works. Benue State is number one compliant on autonomy.”
He added, “Our local government autonomy is sacrosanct, and they have it. The judiciary also have their own autonomy. These are verifiable facts.”
