Prominent Nollywood personalities and concerned Nigerians have rallied support for veteran Yoruba actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, following an emotional appeal by his family as he battles stage-four cancer.
The outpouring of support came after separate emotional pleas were posted on Instagram on Monday by Hassan’s daughters, Lima and Kira Taiwo.
The daughters revealed that their father’s condition had severely deteriorated and urged Nigerians, well-wishers, and cancer care experts to help them locate a facility or medical team capable of offering treatment.
Lima disclosed that local hospitals had refused to continue treating her father due to his declining health, while Kira added that the actor could no longer undergo chemotherapy at his current facility.
Both daughters emphasized that the family was not soliciting financial aid, but rather seeking specialized medical assistance to give their father a fighting chance.
Reacting to the development on Monday, actor and filmmaker Femi Adebayo took to his X handle to urge the public to help the family connect with oncology experts worldwide who could evaluate the actor’s medical files.
“Please let’s rally around our beloved Sir Taiwo Hassan, who is currently facing a serious health challenge battling cancer,” Adebayo wrote.
Clarifying the nature of the family’s plea, Adebayo emphasized that financial support was not the objective.
“As shared by his family, they are NOT looking for money or financial support. What they urgently need is medical direction,” he said.
Adebayo further urged members of the public to share the appeal until it reached specialists capable of offering actionable solutions.
“If you know someone who knows someone in the oncology space, or a medical avenue that can assist please help reach out to his family immediately,” he added.
Adebayo also called for recommendations of standard hospitals, specialists, and advanced treatment centers anywhere across the globe that could examine Ogogo’s medical records.
Similarly, actress Toyin Abraham posted a video of Hassan’s daughters on her Instagram page on Tuesday, appealing directly to her followers for help on behalf of the family.
“Pls kindly send dm to @kira_taiwo @limataiwo_ or me pls🙏🙏🙏🙏 Anyhow anyone can help ejoor🙏🙏🙏🙏,” she wrote.
Hassan, 66, is an iconic figure in the Nigerian film industry whose career spans over four decades. He has starred in more than 300 films and remains one of the most recognizable faces in Yoruba cinema.
