The Centre for Reform and Public Advocacy has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Kano seeking the disqualification of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from contesting the 2027 presidential election over allegations of certificate forgery.

In the suit, marked FHC/K/CS/312/2026, the group alleged that Tinubu submitted forged academic credentials from Chicago State University as well as a fake National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) discharge certificate to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) during the 2023 presidential election.

The plaintiff joined INEC and Chicago State University as co-defendants in the case.

According to the suit, the advocacy group also questioned Tinubu’s educational background, alleging that he did not attend Government College Lagos as stated in his records and does not possess a valid secondary school certificate, which it described as the minimum constitutional requirement for presidential candidates.

Based on the allegations, the group is asking the court to declare Tinubu’s Chicago State University certificate forged and to compel INEC to disqualify him from participating in the 2027 presidential election.

The plaintiff is also seeking a perpetual injunction restraining the electoral commission from accepting or publishing Tinubu’s name as a presidential candidate for the election.

In addition, the group accused INEC of failing to act on a petition it submitted on June 19, 2026, requesting clarification on the President’s eligibility to contest the next presidential election.

The court is yet to fix a date for the hearing of the suit, while the allegations remain unproven unless determined by the court.
