A sweeping redeployment of police officers has been ordered following public outrage over the alleged killing involving Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman.

According to an internal wireless message obtained by SaharaReporters, the directive—issued from the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja under reference number CH:5360/FS/FHQ/ABJ/VOL.42/182 and dated May 3, 2026—mandates the immediate transfer of several officers out of Delta State Command to various formations across the country.

The communication was circulated widely to senior leadership within the force, including all Deputy Inspectors-General overseeing key departments such as Force Intelligence, Research and Planning, Training and Development, the Force Criminal Investigation Department, Finance and Administration, Logistics and Supply, Information and Communication Technology, and Operations.

Assistant Inspectors-General in charge of specialised units—including the Police Mobile Force, Border Patrol Force, and Special Protection Unit—as well as all zonal commands nationwide, were also directed to ensure compliance. The notice extended to the Director of Legal Services at Force Headquarters and commandants of major training institutions such as the Nigeria Police Academy, Police Staff College Jos, and police colleges in Kaduna, Maiduguri, Ikeja, and Oji River.

Commissioners of Police across all state commands and the Federal Capital Territory were formally notified, alongside specialised formations such as Airwing, Railway Command, Special Tactical Squad, Intelligence Response Team, Anti-Terrorism Unit, Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit, Interpol desk, and Force Public Relations Office, among others.

The signal, titled “Posting/Transfer of SPOs,” stated that the Inspector-General had approved the relocation of the officers “out of Delta State Command to commands as indicated against their names,” with instructions that all affected personnel report to their new postings with immediate effect.

Receiving commands were further directed to submit confirmation details to the Inspector-General’s Secretariat and the Office of the Force Secretary on or before May 22, 2026.

The directive was endorsed by Assistant Inspector-General of Police Bode Akinbamilowo, acting as Force Secretary on behalf of the Inspector-General.

The redeployment is widely viewed as an institutional response to the killing of Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State—an incident that has triggered widespread condemnation, intensified scrutiny of police conduct, and renewed calls for accountability within the force.

Among officers affected by the transfer are ASP II Luku Joseph (to Edo State), ASP II Obaro Godwin (to Anambra State), ASP II Awutefe Festus Okolocha (to Abia State), ASP II Kenneth Okoro Okezie (to Edo State), ASP II Agughala Martins (to Imo State), ASP II Adamu Manya (to Anambra State), and ASP II Ogbeakwu Jonas (to Edo State).
