A wave of public indignation has swept across social media following the emergence of a harrowing video depicting a woman allegedly assaulting her 15-year-old daughter.
The incident, which has sparked calls for immediate prosecution, reportedly took place at 32 Tashoro Street, located near the Opeki bus stop off Ayobo Road in the Ipaja area of Lagos State.
The disturbing footage, which began circulating in the early hours of Wednesday, April 29, shows a woman in a yellow shirt straddling the teenager on the ground. In a particularly chilling moment, the woman is seen brandishing a knife over the girl following a reported physical altercation near a residential entrance.
While the video captures several bystanders intervening to de-escalate the situation, the current physical condition and safety status of the teenager remain unconfirmed.
The alarm was first raised by an X (formerly Twitter) user, @Dir_Martinsz, who shared the clip alongside a plea for the government to step in, stating:
“A 15 years old is mistreated and abused by her mother. And stab the 15 year old girl. Please let Nigeria come for her rescue and tag right authorities .” This post has since triggered a massive digital outcry, with concerned citizens and human rights advocates actively tagging the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), and Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to demand swift legal action and immediate protection for the minor.
At the time of this report, neither the Lagos State Police Command nor the relevant state social welfare agencies have released an official statement regarding the issue.
