A faction of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Osun State has called on Nigerians to continue praying for their leaders and the country, expressing optimism that current economic challenges will give way to prosperity.
This was contained in a statement signed by the factional Osun IPAC Chairman, Tosin Odeyemi, and Secretary, Kazeem Araoye, made available to journalists on Thursday in Osogbo to mark Nigeria’s 66th Independence anniversary.
The council noted that the October 1 Independence anniversary offered Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices of the nation’s founding fathers and the resilience of the people, which had kept the country going despite various challenges affecting its stability.
“Despite economic and security challenges confronting the country, the Nigerian spirit remains unbroken,” the statement read. “People should keep praying for the country and its leaders.”
“The council shares in the pains and struggles of ordinary Nigerians, particularly families grappling with the current economic realities. This difficult moment will pass.”
“We are confident that Nigeria’s future is bright and Osun’s future is brighter. With unity, patriotism and purposeful leadership, we will overcome our present challenges and build the state and nation of our dreams with prayers and determination,” the council added.
On the political situation in Osun , IPAC reiterated its commitment to deepening democracy, promoting peace, and fostering good governance in the state.
The statement noted that the council would not compromise on its resolve to collaborate with the Osun State Government in the interest of the people while discharging its duty as a watchdog.
Meanwhile, the Olowu of Kuta in Osun State, Oba Adekunle Oyelude, has underscored the importance of grassroots development and traditional institutions in shaping the nation’s future.
The monarch, in his 66th Independence anniversary message to Nigerians obtained in Osogbo on Thursday, stressed the need to build a prosperous Nigeria by paying attention to the values, character, and responsibilities cultivated at the grassroots.
According to him, traditional rulers, as custodians of cultural heritage and community values, have an important role to play in raising responsible citizens who can contribute meaningfully to national development.
Oba Oyelude also noted that traditional institutions served as a bridge between government and grassroots communities, placing them in a position to support peacebuilding, community security, public enlightenment, and the preservation of cultural values.
He further explained that traditional rulers remained closely connected to the people and could help strengthen communication between communities and public authorities, particularly on issues affecting local welfare, security, and social harmony.
He also stressed the importance of collaboration between traditional institutions and government, noting that effective partnerships were necessary for traditional rulers to fulfil their responsibilities and contribute more meaningfully to national progress.
