Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been formally brought before a Federal High Court in Ota, Ogun State, to answer multiple criminal allegations ranging from violence to theft.

According to the Ogun State Police Command, the charges stem from a series of incidents linked to a dispute involving the artiste and his estranged partner. Investigators allege that the singer was involved in an altercation at his bar in the Iyana Ilogbo area on January 1, during which several individuals, including a police officer, were reportedly assaulted.

Prosecutors told the court that the case also involves allegations of unlawful possession of a luxury vehicle said to be worth millions of naira. The vehicle was reportedly taken from a car dealership and is claimed to belong to one of the complainants in the matter.

At Monday’s proceedings, the court heard testimony from witnesses related to the alleged assault, while the complainant at the centre of the case was not present. The judge declined to consider bail, citing procedural requirements, and ordered that the defendant remain in custody pending the appearance of a key police witness.

The matter was adjourned to January 19, when the court is expected to continue hearing the case. Meanwhile, the police have confirmed that a separate inquiry has been opened following the circulation of a video showing the singer’s treatment while in detention.

Portable has been involved in previous legal disputes and convictions in Ogun State, reinforcing his reputation as one of the music industry’s most controversial figures.
