President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the reappointment of the Director-General of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Abdulhamid Salihu Dembos, and the Managing Director of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Ali Mohammed Ali, for another three years.
Their renewed tenure will commence on October 20, 2026, following the expiration of their first three-year terms, which began on the same date in 2023.
The Presidency announced the development in a statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Dembos, an indigene of Yola, Adamawa State, is a veteran broadcaster who joined the NTA in 1989 as an announcer at the Kaduna station after completing his National Youth Service.
He subsequently rose through the ranks, serving in various managerial positions, including General Manager of NTA Lokoja and NTA Kano.
Before his retirement from the NTA in 2017, Dembos served as Acting Zonal Director of the NTA Kaduna Network Centre. He later returned to the organisation as Executive Director of Marketing.
He is also a former National President of the Radio, Television, Theatre and Art Workers Union (RATTAWU).
Ali, the NAN Managing Director, is an experienced journalist and media executive with more than three decades in the industry.
He has focused extensively on media development, content production and the transformation of news organisations to meet the demands of an increasingly digital media environment.
The NAN chief executive holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Bayero University, Kano, a graduate degree in International Affairs from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Mass Communication from Bayero University.
With the renewal of their appointments, Tinubu has charged both executives to build on their achievements and remain committed to the mandates of their respective organisations.
The President also urged Dembos and Ali to justify the confidence placed in them by supporting the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda through their institutions.
Their second term will therefore keep both media organisations under their current leadership until October 2029, subject to the terms of their appointments.
