The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has distributed luxury vehicles to All Progressives Congress (APC) women leaders across several states ahead of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election campaign. The move, intended to advance the administration’s “Renewed Hope Agenda” and empower women within the ruling party’s structure, has sparked massive backlash and heavy criticism online.

In a social media update shared by Nigeria Stories, the announcement was made during an official inauguration event where the First Lady spoke from a podium bearing the seal of her office.

Speaking at the gathering, she specifically singled out women leaders from opposition-led states where the APC does not currently hold the governorship but maintains a strong party membership.

She assured the APC women leaders of Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Osun, and Oyo states that their vehicles would be ready before the end of the week.

The First Lady emphasized that the vehicles are personal gifts to the women leaders rather than the party itself, instructing the beneficiaries to register the cars directly in their own names.
Addressing the distribution, the First Lady explicitly stated:

“We have news for the state where the state we don’t have the presence of the APC but we have members of the APC. So to all our women leaders—the woman leader for Abia State, APC woman leader for Anambra State, APC woman leader for Bauchi State, APC leader for Osun State, APC leader for Oyo State—your vehicle will be ready before the end of the week. So I urge all our governors, this is how we want our women to be treated. The vehicles are your personal vehicles, you are not giving it to the party, you register the vehicles in your name.”

She further challenged serving APC governors across the country to emulate her by purchasing vehicles for their respective state women leaders, asserting that people must see the tangible value of politicians.

“Register these vehicles in your names. And our beloved state governors, the APC governors, buy your women leaders vehicles. We are not playing politics like before; we are politicians and people should see the value on us. So this is a blessed party, so we want our women to be in power.”

However, the luxury car distribution has triggered severe backlash across social media, with many citizens expressing deep anger over the timing of the gifts during a severe national economic and security crisis.

Critics online slammed the move as insensitive and a reckless misuse of power, contrasting the distribution of luxury cars with the plight of ordinary Nigerians.

“While families are still praying for abducted children, others are clapping for luxury car distributions. Two realities, One country, Zero shame.”
