The FCT Police Command has debunked widespread rumors of a kidnapping incident at Phase 1 Primary School in Gbagalape, Abuja, describing the event as a false alarm that triggered mass panic among residents.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 10:30 AM on Thursday, began when students within the school suddenly started shouting “kidnappers” and fled the premises in confusion. The sudden uproar quickly spread outside the school gates, causing total chaos as children across the Nyanya and Gbagalape areas ran home in fear for their safety.
Upon receiving a distress call regarding the situation, the Divisional Police Officer for Nyanya Division immediately mobilized a team of officers and surveillance units to the scene.
Security operatives cordoned off the school premises and conducted a thorough search of the area. Following extensive questioning of people within the neighborhood, the police confirmed that no kidnapping took place, no suspects were sighted, and no victim was identified.
To ensure total safety, police teams extended their patrol to the surrounding hills, boundaries, and adjoining communities, while also visiting nearby schools as a precautionary measure.
The FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, urged members of the public to remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of creating unnecessary tension.
Meanwhile, the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, has assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory of their safety, advising them to promptly report any suspicious activities through the command’s emergency lines.
