The remains of veteran Nollywood actor, Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, have arrived in his hometown, Ilaro, Ogun State, ahead of his final burial rites.
The late actor passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the age of 66 after a battle with stage-four cancer.
His passing comes just days after his daughters, Kira and Lima Taiwo, made an emotional public appeal alongside fellow Nollywood actors seeking urgent medical assistance and specialists to review his case, clarifying that the family was strictly seeking medical guidance rather than financial aid.
The family had sought alternative medical interventions after doctors informed them that the actor’s condition had deteriorated to a point where chemotherapy could no longer be administered.
In a video shared on X by user #DammieDammie, the body of the late actor was received amid an outpouring of grief as family members, colleagues, and local residents gathered for the final rites.
Nollywood actress Ireti Osayemi was also among the early callers who arrived in the town to pay her last respects, as captured in a video posted by Emiralty Africa via Instagram on Monday.
Multiple industry sources, including Best of Nollywood founder Seun Oloketuyi, confirmed the veteran actor’s passing, while veteran actor Jide Kosoko later announced the burial arrangements.
According to the official arrangements, Hassan’s remains were scheduled to be taken to the Pavilion in Ilaro for a lying-in-state ceremony on Monday before his final interment.
Reacting to the loss, the Ogun State Government described the late actor as a “shining light whose talent and dedication helped promote Nigerian culture and project the richness of Yoruba heritage beyond the country”.
Born in Ilaro, Hassan was a giant in the Yoruba movie industry, entertaining audiences across generations throughout a career that spanned several decades.
