President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Paris, France, for Nigeria after concluding his working vacation abroad, the Presidency has announced.
Tinubu is expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, before proceeding with a series of engagements in the state.
According to a statement by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, widely recognised as the winner of the June 12, 1993 presidential election.
The President is expected to attend the premiere of a movie commemorating Abiola on Independence Day at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre, Iganmu, Lagos.
During his stay in Lagos, Tinubu will also hold strategic meetings with political leaders and associates over several days as part of preparations ahead of the 2027 elections.
The President left Abuja on August 30 for the working vacation, spending one week in London before travelling to Paris.
While in France, Tinubu attended a private dinner with President Emmanuel Macron and held meetings with business leaders, including Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group, whose media and digital interests include Canal+, MultiChoice and Universal Music Group.
He also met with the Chairman of First Holdings, Femi Otedola, on Monday.
Last week, the President witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Seaport in Ogun Waterside and the establishment of a Blue Marine Economic Zone.
The project is expected to attract a $7 billion investment from DP World, a global ports and logistics operator.
Tinubu’s return to Nigeria comes on the heels of growing speculation over the reason for his prolonged stay abroad, with claims circulating that the President had extended his vacation to receive medical treatment in France. Opposition figures and critics had also questioned the length of his absence from the country and called for greater clarity over his whereabouts and activities during the extended stay.
The Presidency has maintained that Tinubu was on a working vacation and continued to discharge his responsibilities while abroad. Onanuga had previously said the President was “hale and hearty” and could perform his duties from anywhere in the digital age.
Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja after completing his political engagements in Lagos.
