A scene of profound distress recently unfolded at the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Secretariat as an aggrieved supporter publicly lamented the total loss of his livelihood and family stability following the 2023 elections.
In a viral video captured at the scene, the man claimed that his absolute devotion to the party’s success led him to sell his home and exhaust over ₦30 million in life savings. This financial ruin was reportedly compounded by the tragic death of his wife, leaving him homeless, destitute, and feeling utterly abandoned by the political organization he sacrificed everything to support.
The man, appearing visibly distraught, explained to onlookers that he was forced to liquidate his property just to settle mounting debts incurred while carrying out official work for the party. He expressed bitter disappointment over the lack of compensation or recognition, alleging that instead of receiving help, he was met with hostility from security personnel. In an emotional outburst, he claimed that the Chief Security Officer (CSO) at the secretariat had threatened him, shouting that he had been discarded despite being a “party man” and not a “lunatic” as some suggested.
The situation reached a desperate peak when the supporter revealed that his financial collapse had made it impossible to provide for his family. He claimed that he could no longer afford school fees or basic necessities, leading him to make the harrowing decision to leave his children at the party headquarters.
“I dropped my children with the CSO and APC because I could no longer take care of them again,”
He cried, stating that he no longer even knew their current whereabouts since abandoning them to the party’s care.
Despite his clear agony, some bystanders at the scene reportedly mocked the man, questioning his judgment in selling personal assets for political activities with the refrain, “Who sent you?” The protester remained steadfast, clutching a banner and insisting that his actions were driven by genuine loyalty. As of the time of this report, the APC has not officially responded to the incident, and the welfare of the man and his children remains unknown, highlighting the devastating personal risks often hidden behind high-stakes political patronage.
