The Delta State Government has suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highway and Urban Roads), Izeze Reuben, indefinitely over allegations linking him to the reported assault of a senior aide to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Eze Emu, on Tuesday.
According to the state government, the decision was taken to allow security agencies to conduct an impartial investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident involving the Governor’s Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Simon Mudi, popularly known as Temple.
Mudi was reportedly attacked during a political gathering at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, where he sustained injuries.
The circumstances leading to the confrontation, as well as the individuals allegedly involved, are now being investigated by the relevant security authorities.
The state government said suspending Reuben was necessary to ensure that the investigation proceeds without interference and that all facts surrounding the incident are established.
It stressed that the action was not a determination of the commissioner’s culpability but was intended to facilitate a transparent investigation.
The government also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives, maintaining law and order and ensuring public safety across the state.
It said these principles would be upheld in all circumstances, including cases involving government officials and state institutions.
