Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State has announced the commencement of a crackdown on what he described as fake pastors and prophets performing deceptive miracles in the state.

Soludo disclosed that several suspects have already been arrested and are currently in custody, adding that some of them were making confessions to authorities.

The governor made the remarks on Sunday while speaking at St. Patrick’s Cathedral during the All Knights Day celebration organised by the Catholic Diocese of Awka.

He accused certain religious leaders of exploiting vulnerable people through messages centred on what he described as “salvation without the cross.”

“The state has commenced an ongoing crackdown on fake pastors who exploit the vulnerable by preaching gospel of ‘salvation without the cross,’” Soludo said.

“As I speak now, several of them are already in custody and confessing. A new Anambra is in the offing, which must be clean and clear of such deception.”

The governor also challenged pastors and prophets who claim to possess genuine healing powers to demonstrate them publicly at hospitals.

“We’ve arrested fake pastors and bishops. Whoever wants to perform miracle should come to Amaku Hospital,” he stated.

Soludo further urged church leaders in the state to promote the values of hard work and honesty, insisting that prosperity should not be presented as something achievable without sacrifice or effort.
