Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that he will not be influenced by sentimental displays following a viral video of a female pastor kneeling to beg for his intervention in ensuring Jabi Lake is not privatised.
Speaking during a media parley on wednesday, the Minister addressed the incident directly, questioning the purpose of the public display and emphasizing that he remains unmoved by such tactics.
“I am not carried away by such emotions… kneeling down to do what?”. He made it clear that government decisions and legal matters would follow established regulations rather than responding to public emotional appeals.
Recall that the Senior Pastor of Family Worship Centre, Pastor Sarah Omakwu, had knelt during a church service to appeal to the Minister to reconsider the government’s stance on the privatisation of Jabi Lake, stressing that residents of the FCT go there to unwind and destress. While she acknowledged the development the FCT has seen during Wike’s tenure, she firmly appealed that Jabi Lake be exempted from the privatisation of public spaces within the FCT.
Despite the emotional plea, Wike’s response reinforces his reputation for maintaining a firm, no-nonsense approach to governance.
