The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Nentawe Yilwatda, alongside Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and other party leaders, have paid a private visit to Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed.

The delegation held a closed-door meeting with the governor at the Government House in Bauchi. While official details were not disclosed, sources suggest the talks may be connected to ongoing political realignments ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The visit comes less than 24 hours after Governor Mohammed hosted national leaders of the African Democratic Congress in Bauchi, where he reportedly expressed interest in joining the party.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, Mohammed attributed his decision to leave the Peoples Democratic Party to the party’s prolonged internal crisis.

“We are very conscious of the timeline. We are finalising this move by Thursday so that we can be able to be on the same page and not excluded from participation,” he said.

Addressing speculation about a possible move to the APC, the governor said he and his supporters do not feel welcomed by the ruling party.

“We are not wanted in the APC because we are not being approached. We tried to get there, but certainly, most of the people around us prefer ADC or other parties than APC,” he stated.

He further explained that the preference within his camp is to align with an opposition platform rather than the ruling party.

“If they said we should go to the APC, we will go, but I think the preference is to go to the opposition party,” he added.

Mohammed described the ADC as a “welcoming and acceptable platform,” while noting that consultations with stakeholders are still ongoing to avoid missteps.

The Bauchi governor is among the few remaining governors within the PDP, though his faction is currently trailing a rival bloc backed by Nyesom Wike, which recently held a national convention after securing key court victories affirming its position in the party’s leadership dispute.
