Confusion has emerged within the Progressive Governors Forum (PGF) of the APC following reports that Hope Uzodimma, governor of Imo State, has been removed as chairman of the forum and replaced by Peter Mbah, governor of Enugu State.
The reported shake-up came just hours after Uzodimma represented governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the submission of President Bola Tinubu’s presidential nomination and expression of interest forms in Abuja on Thursday.
According to multiple reports, the decision was reached during an extraordinary meeting of about 20 progressive governors held in Abuja on Thursday night. Governors said to have attended the meeting included Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Douye Diri of Bayelsa State, and Peter Mbah of Enugu State, alongside several others.
Reports claimed that following a closed-door session, the governors resolved to appoint Mbah as the new chairman of the forum, replacing Uzodimma.
However, the development was swiftly denied by the forum’s Director General, Folorunso Aluko, who described the reports as “false and misleading.”
According to Aluko, no such meeting took place and Uzodimma remains the substantive chairman of the PGF.
Despite the denial, a source familiar with the development reportedly confirmed to Daily Post that the meeting indeed held at the Ogun Government Lodge in Abuja on Thursday night.
The conflicting accounts have further fuelled uncertainty over the leadership of the influential governors’ forum, which plays a major role in shaping political direction within the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 elections.
